"And they took in their hands some of the fruit of the land
and brought it down to us, and brought us word again and said,
'It is a good land the Lord our God is giving us.'"
- DEUTERONOMY 1:25 -

WHERE IT ALL STARTED
I can still hear my flock of chickens and ducks calling impatiently from over at the Flock Cottage, waiting for me to feed them — a task they whimsically expected me to perform even if their feeders were already full-to-overflowing with grain. During the warmer months, the gardens can be found bursting with hundreds upon hundreds of flowers of all shapes and sizes, most of them planted by my family in the short time we have called this beautiful place home.
The Flock Cottage and early 1900's little white farmhouse surrounded by flowers perch near the road, while the ground rises steeply behind the house. If you follow the winding & steep path up through the woods you will come to our secluded farm and the view across the valley will very likely take your breath away. Our Jersey cows can be found meandering through the pasture and perhaps you will catch a glimpse of the morning milking.
For many years this was where I lived, worked, and thrived with my family. And ultimately this is where the idea for Notes from Rooster's Chapel was first born and brought to life.
Tucked away in the Appalachian Mountains of southwest Virginia is a beautiful place called Rooster's Chapel. In the mornings, the mist drapes over the ridges as far as the eye can see. Oftentimes golden sunlight glitters through, gilding the tree branches and leaves, while at other times a silvery frost blankets everything in icy hues.

Hello, I'm Loran, the barefoot creative behind Notes from Rooster's Chapel! I'm a self-taught watercolor artist & photographer and when I first started Notes from Rooster's Chapel I was living with my family (my parents and siblings) on our farmstead in Virginia. Currently, however, you'll find me working and bouncing around between the beautiful states of Oregon & Arizona, or even back on the family farm in Virginia. I am blessed beyond measure and grateful to be living life with my incredible husband & the love of my life, Michael O'Rielly, as well as our rescue dog named Buster.
NOTES FROM ROOSTER'S CHAPEL TODAY
Eventually, Michael and I plan to move back more permanently to be near the family farm in Virginia, which is called Rooster's Chapel and provides the inspiration for my brand name.
As you might have already guessed, I love flowers, chickens & ducks, photography, and writing. But I also adore classical music, good espresso, the golden hour, long walks, excellent pens, and all sorts of pretty journals, notebooks, and paper!

It gives me great satisfaction to combine my love of sharing the beautiful images I capture and my watercolor paintings with beautiful paper goods, apparel, and gifts. As my confidence as an artist has grown, I have come to love and specialize in creating custom paintings of all kinds, including keepsake pet portraits.
I hope you find something to love in my little shop, and if you have an idea of something I could create for you please do reach out!
Hugs,
